Early detection of mild cognitive impairment is important
Anyone with symptoms of mild cognitive impairment should consult a medical physician to identify the etiology of its manifestation. Although neurodegenerative disease is commonly associated with MCI, the syndromes of MCI could also be due to other causes such as depression, poorly controlled chronic illnesses and adverse effects of medications. Early detection and assessment of MCI is important to allow for appropriate management.
In individuals who may have MCI secondary to a neurodegenerative disease (eg. Alzheimer’s disease), earlier adoption of lifestyle management can delay the onset of symptoms of dementia.
